Alan Halliday

British, 1952
Alan Halliday (1945-2020) was a Scottish-born artist who was known for his abstract paintings. He studied at Edinburgh College of Art and the Royal College of Art in London before moving to New York City in 1977, where he lived and worked for the rest of his life. Halliday's paintings were characterized by their bold colors, gestural brushstrokes, and layered textures. He often worked on large canvases and used a wide range of materials, including oil paint, acrylic paint, charcoal, and pencil. Halliday's work was influenced by the Abstract Expressionist movement of the 1950s and 1960s, as well as by the Scottish landscape and the natural world. His paintings have been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the National Gallery of Scotland in Edinburgh.
