Albert Haldey & Sister Parish / Parish Hadley

American
Sister Parish and Albert Hadley were American interior designers who worked together in the mid-20th century. They are known for their classic and traditional style, which combined elements of English country design with American practicality.

Sister Parish was born in 1910 as Dorothy May Kinnicutt, and began her career as an interior decorator in the 1930s. In 1941, she opened her own design firm, Sister Parish Design, which quickly became known for its warm and inviting interiors. She was particularly skilled at mixing patterns and colors to create eclectic yet cohesive spaces.

Albert Hadley was born in 1920 and studied at the Parsons School of Design in New York. He began his career working for the legendary designer Dorothy Draper before joining Sister Parish's firm in 1949. The two designers quickly formed a close friendship and creative partnership, with Hadley bringing a more modernist sensibility to Parish's traditional style.

Together, Parish and Hadley designed interiors for a wide range of clients, including several presidents and first ladies of the United States. They were known for their use of high-quality materials and attention to detail, as well as their ability to create timeless and elegant spaces. Their work remains influential in the world of interior design, and their legacy is celebrated through the Albert Hadley and Sister Parish Design scholarship, which supports emerging interior designers.
