Andy Moses

American, 1962
Residing and creating in the vibrant artistic hub of Venice, California, Andy Moses is a distinguished artist with a captivating journey in the world of contemporary art. Born in Los Angeles in 1962, he delved into his artistic pursuits at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) from 1979 to 1981. During his time at CalArts, Moses honed his skills in performance, film, and painting under the guidance of influential mentors, including Michael Asher, John Baldessari, and Barbara Kruger.

In 1981, Moses made a pivotal move to New York, where he immersed himself in the art scene while working alongside the acclaimed artist Pat Steir. It was during this period that he pioneered a distinctive form of process painting, seamlessly blending abstraction and representation. His innovative approach involves pushing the boundaries of paint through intricate chemical reactions, viscosity interference, and gravity dispersion, resulting in complex compositions that mirror the forces of nature.

Andy Moses marked his entry into the art world with a group exhibition, "selections," at Artists Space in 1986. The following year, he achieved a significant milestone with his first solo exhibition at the Annina Nosei Gallery in New York. Over the past thirty-five years, Moses has consistently showcased his work in exhibitions across New York, Los Angeles, and international platforms.

Returning to his roots in Los Angeles in 2000, Moses continues to evolve and perfect the language of his unique painting processes. His artistic endeavors extend beyond mere canvases, exploring intricate interrelationships with the technical and natural realms. As an artist dedicated to pushing the boundaries of his craft, Andy Moses remains a compelling figure, refining his artistic vocabulary and contributing to the dynamic landscape of contemporary art.
