Erik Stanton Chan

American

Erik Chan has been a contributing designer to Boyd Lighting for almost two decades. His designs maintain a sense of classical proportion while they emerge as new explorations of form and style. A second generation architect and designer, Erik is a graduate of U.C. Berkeley's School of Environmental Design (Architecture) and of Art Center's Europe's Advanced Industrial Design Program in Switzerland. He is truly a multi-disciplined designer, having spent the last two decades as a lighting designer, architect, industrial designer, multimedia/web developer artist and art director.

Erik began his design career in architectural design. During the 1980s, he worked as a designer on a variety of residential, restaurant and hospitality projects. In the 1990s, his focus shifted to the emerging world of computer graphics and animation. As a conceptual and multimedia artist, he designed environments and animations for several game companies including Electronic Arts and Rocket Science Games. He also played an instrumental part in the development of Adobe Systems' online 3D software package, Adobe Atmosphere.

During the Internet boom, Erik was drawn into the design and direction of web-based projects. As creative director for rStar Networks and founding partner of bConnects Agency, he created numerous web-based educational and marketing solutions for companies including Microsoft, Ford and Kodak. In recent years, however, he has begun to return to his roots, focusing more of his time and attention on product and interior design.

In addition to his creations for Boyd Lighting, Erik has designed consumer-oriented products for a variety of companies including Hewlett Packard, Sitcom Furniture and Minolta. Erik is a licensed architect and lives with his wife and two children in Orinda, California.
