Liceu de Artes e Ofícios

Brazilian
The Liceu de Artes e Oficios de Sao Paulo was created in 1873 as a School for Arts and Crafts by a group of members linked to the local wealthy coffee merchants. It is a private school founded in the Freemason tradition for locals and workers to provide the people with the necessary knowledge of arts, crafts, trade, agriculture and industry. The school’s carpentry was responsible for furnishing several hotels, such as the Sheraton River, Manaus Tropical Hotel and Transamerica in Sao Paulo and Cumbica International Airport. Several Liceu de Arte furniture designs remain popular today.
