Melanie A. Yazzie

Melanie A. Yazzie is a Native American artist and printmaker from the Navajo Nation. She was born in Ganado, Arizona, in 1966, and currently lives and works in Boulder, Colorado, where she is a professor of printmaking at the University of Colorado. Yazzie's work is heavily influenced by her Navajo heritage and focuses on themes such as spirituality, identity, and cultural and environmental issues. She often uses traditional Navajo iconography and symbols in her work, such as the four directions, the sacred mountains, and the night sky. Yazzie has exhibited her work nationally and internationally, and her prints are in the collections of numerous museums and institutions, including the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian and the Library of Congress.
