Wanscher is best known for his elegant and refined furniture designs, which were often inspired by classical forms and made from high-quality materials such as teak and rosewood. His designs were characterized by their simplicity, functionalism, and attention to detail.

Some of Wanscher's most famous designs include the Colonial Chair, which was first produced in 1949 and is now considered a Danish design classic, and the Egyptian Stool, which was inspired by ancient Egyptian furniture.
