Sørensen began his career as an architect in the 1930s, but turned to lighting design in the 1950s. He worked for several Danish lighting companies, including Holm Sørensen & Co., which he founded in 1953, and Le Klint, for which he designed several lamps in the 1960s.

Sørensen's designs often featured simple, geometric forms, and he was known for his use of materials such as brass, copper, and acrylic. Some of his most famous designs include the "Flowerpot" lamp, which he created for the company Louis Poulsen in 1969, and the "Telescope" lamp, which he designed for Holm Sørensen & Co. in the 1950s.
