Walter Darby Bannard

Walter Darby Bannard was an American abstract painter associated with the Color Field movement. He was born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1934 and died in Miami, Florida in 2016.
Bannard studied art and art history at the University of Miami and earned his MFA from the University of California, Berkeley. He was one of the first artists to exhibit at the Leo Castelli Gallery in New York City in the 1960s and was an active member of the New York art scene throughout his career.
Bannard's paintings are characterized by their use of vibrant color and geometric shapes. He worked with acrylic paint and explored the effects of color on the viewer's perception of space and light. Over the course of his career, his style evolved from hard-edge geometric abstraction to more fluid and gestural forms.
