Warren McArthur

American, 1885 - 1961
Furniture designer Warren McArthur Jr. was born into an affluent family in Chicago in 1885. He was the son of Warren McArthur Sr. and the brother of Charles and Albert McArthur. Warren Jr. became known as a Machine Age designer for both commercial and residential markets. Following his graduation from Cornell with a degree in engineering, in 1908, McArthur began designing and submitted his earliest patents for tubular lanterns and lamps. In the 1930s, the Warren McArthur Corporation moved manufacturing to Rome, New York-just as metal furniture was gaining momentum. Warren McArthur Jr.’s designs for tubular metal furniture remain popular worldwide today.
