William Watting

William Watting (1900-1973) was an American furniture designer who is known for his contributions to the development of modern furniture design. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and began his career as an architect, working in the office of Walter Gropius in the late 1920s.
 
Watting is most well-known for his innovative use of plywood in furniture design. He was one of the first designers to experiment with the material, and his designs helped to establish the use of plywood as a popular choice for furniture manufacturing. Watting's designs were characterized by their simplicity, functionality, and geometric shapes.
 
During his career, Watting worked for several notable furniture manufacturers, including Heywood-Wakefield and the H.G. Furniture Company. He also worked as a freelance designer, producing designs for clients such as the US Navy and the US Army. Today, his designs are highly collectible and can be found in many museums and private collections around the world.
