April in Paris: Masters of French Photography at Just Folk Gallery
Just Folk announces April in Paris, a new show featuring the crème de la crème of French photography from Peter Fetterman Gallery.
It occurred to us that there are very few venues for photo art in the Santa Barbara area, but a lot of interest in high-end photography. We proposed an exhibition in our upstairs gallery to our friend, Peter Fetterman, one of the pioneers of Santa Monica’s Bergamot Station, whose gallery features classic 20th Century Photography with a focus on humanism. We decided to share our galleries.
Peter Fetterman Gallery’s show at Just Folk will include rare editions of famous works by Henri Cartier- Bresson, Willy Ronis, Robert Doisneau, Elliot Erwitt and Edouard Boubat among others, all signed by the artists. The show will open with a festive reception on Thursday, April 23rd from 6-8pm. Along with Susan Baerwald and Marcy Carsey, Peter Fetterman will be in attendance and give a short talk on appreciating and collecting photography. Wine, cheese, and other things French will be served! Approximately 35 iconic black and white photographs will be exhibited. The show will run through June.
We are all very excited about this new adventure. All art venues need to be dynamic, adaptable and provocative. We are taking these steps by collaborating with a like-minded friend. Next year, Just Folk is planning an exhibit of Outsider and Self-Taught Art at Peter Fetterman Gallery in Santa Monica, including works by Bill Traylor, Martin Ramirez, William Hawkins and James Castle. We feel that sharing our galleries is unprecedented and bold. The combination of Just Folk and Peter Fetterman Gallery will broaden vistas by presenting different art forms to imaginative collectors. That’s what friends are for!
