Art Miami New York

by Gerald Peters Gallery
Gerald Peters Gallery, New York, is pleased to announce its participation in Art Miami New York. The gallery is thrilled to be exhibiting 20th and 21st century American paintings and sculpture, with a selection of works by African American artists comprising the centerpiece of the installation. In light of the recent reunification and installation of Jacob Lawrence’s Migration Series at MOMA, as well as the gallery’s association with artists including Lisa Corinne Davis, Frank Wimberley, and Claude Lawrence, the gallery is pleased to be able to showcase a survey in brief of paintings by African American artists from the 1950s through the present day. The installation begins in with Norman Lewis, who developed his Abstract Expressionist style by merging influences of surrealism, music, and pure abstraction. Traveling through the 1960s with Romare Bearden’s socially focused photo-collages; the 1970s with Alma Thomas’s expressionist canvases; and the 1990s with Herbert Gentry’s rhythmic, figurative canvases; the installation arrives at the present day with Lisa Corinne Davis’s complex, topographical abstractions and Frank Wimberley’s contemporary re-evaluations of Abstract Expressionism. Art Miami New York opens on Thursday, May 14th and runs through Sunday, May 17th. Visit Gerald Peters Gallery at booth B23 on Pier 94.
