Fever Within: The Art of Ronald Lockett
"Fever Within" is the first retrospective of the artist Ronald Lockett (1965-1998). Encouraged by his cousin Thornton Dial (1928-2016), Lockett's work expresses themes of the human condition from the perspective of an African-American living in the south. Using found objects, Lockett explored racial, economic, and political unrest and the unfulfilled promises of the civil rights movement and environmental degradation. During his lifetime he created more than 350 works, a selection of which is included in the exhibition, on view at the American Folk Art Museum, NYC, through September 18, 2016. Guest curator Bernard L. Herman also edited the catalogue.
