The gilt bronze drum of each piece is topped with a gilt bronze crown that is mounted with a porcelain plaque painted with a cherub and various instruments associated with astronomy. This plaque is surrounded by an ornate gilt bronze frame, featuring tied ribbon and various foliate and floral motifs, all wrought from gilt bronze. Below the drum of each piece is affixed another gilt bronze frame, also inset with a porcelain plaque painted in a manner comparable to the plaque inset to the top.
The clock dial is signed ‘Balthazard / A Paris’, while the barometer dial is signed ‘Passemant / Au Louvre’. The movement of the clock is marked with the stamp of Japy Freres.
