Description Gustave Michel is most well known for his work on the Pont Alexandre III in Paris, a deck arch bridge that spans the Seine. It was constructed to celebrate the Franco-Russian alliance and named after the then Russian Zsar. It connects the Champs-Élysées quarter with those of the Invalides and Eiffel Tower. The bridge is widely regarded as the most ornate, extravagant bridge in the city. It is classified as a French Monument historique. Amongst many famous sculptors that contributed to the Bridge (Freminet, Gardet, and Jules Dalou), Gustave Michel contributed the sculpture La France Contemporaine (Contemporary France)
The Trinity Bridge in St.Petersburg, Russia was built to celebrate the same political occasion.
