  • Description
Made of lacquered wood with mother-of-pearl inlay, bronze mounts, and a silk tie and tassel. Paddles similar to this one were used by generals in order to communicate orders to their troops. This one in particular, due to its elaborate decorations, was probably used for ceremony. The right hand side reads: dragon. The left side dates the paddle in zodiac terms, 1716. The maker's seal reads: Tochikudo. The reverse of the paddle has an image of the sun and moon in mother of pearl. Stand included with paddle.
