The statue of "Shou" is the god of longevity. In the Chinese religion (Taoism) there are three gods known as the Saxing. They consist of Fu (prosperity), Lu (Status), and Shou (Longevity). These are considered the three most important attributes of a good life in Chinese culture.

Statues like these are typically found at temples, shrines, and in nearly every Chinese home. The "star" of Shou is the star of the South Pole controlling the life span of mortals, thus referred to as the God of Longevity. He typically carries a cane made by the Emperor which symbolizes privileges awarded to the elderly.

This particular late 19th century Chinese hand-painted Famille Rose porcelain statue is in excellent beautiful and all original condition with no chips or repairs and is painted in bright colors. It stands 16" high x 5" deep x 6" wide.
