Description This very attractive British made oval shaped and tapered mahogany peat bucket is elaborately decorated and bound with five brass bands, and is held at the top with the original brass bale, held in place by the original side brass mounts, circa 1780. The spacing and size of the five bands are unique in that there are two wide bands (top and bottom) and three narrow bands wrapped around the bucket in between. Peat buckets were used to move fertilizer or "peat" and were often found outdoors, therefore it is very difficult to find quality and original specimens that have not been battered by the elements. Condition of this peat bucket is excellent and all original.
Dimensions: 13" wide (long oval top)
10 1/2" wide (short, top)
14" high (side, highest point).
