19th Century porcelain and gilt bronze centrepiece garniture
French, late 19th Century
Jardiniere: Height 32.5cm, width 73cm, depth 21cm
Pair of vases: Height 48cm, width 33cm, depth 16cm
This centrepiece garniture features an exquisite central jardiniere, flanked by a pair of equally beautiful vases.
The three vessels are stylistically alike, with rich chocolate-colour painted porcelain bodies that are decorated with flowers, picked out in a lighter gold paint. On each piece, the gilt rim is ornamented with a gilt bronze clam shell and hanging vines. These luxury objects are each given two gilt handles, which appear twisted like rope, and are raised off the ground by four golden lion's feet.
Because of its unusual and striking design, this antique garniture would fit in well in either a traditional or contemporary setting. The set could be used to display flowers, or simply enjoyed for its pleasing aesthetic qualities, as a fine work of French decorative art. -
