Description
A whimsical open-coiled French wirework three-tiered demilune planter, circa 1880; with graceful swan neck ornamentals, scrolls and supports set upon three weathered casters. The aesthetic effect of this eclectic antique garden planter is delicate, open, light and airy. Wear is consistent with age and use with some flaking oxidation and imperfections. Hand-crafted wirework was popular in the 19th Century.
The Victorian age was one of varied leisure pursuits. Conservatories, greenhouses and aviaries were in favor in the large and stately homes of the era while even more modest residences could have an elegant wireworks planter such as this.
