Description | British Sailor's "Woolwork" but made of Pearled Cotton of a Merchant Navy Ship at Sunset. Circa 1875 (Ref: NY9345-curx) The charming pearled cotton woolie depicts a portside view of a British Merchant Navy ship, with a red ensign, under full sail out on the ocean, her sails slightly trapunto with a glow of a sunset in the sky. The sailor artist has created a lively image with the direction of the cotton going in different directions with the sail’s cotton vertical and the sky horizontal while the blue sea with the occasional white tops created in many different directions to depict the waves. All within a dark wood frame with a gilt slip. Dimensions: 15 3/4 inches high x 19 3/4 inches x 1/2 inch deep |
