Description
ARTISAN: Possibly by Isaac L. Platt (1793–1875)
COMMENTARY: This dignified chimney glass is a superb example of the understated classical taste that dominated American interior during the 1820s and 1830s. The frame features engaged columns with reeding, lotus carvings and stylized floral rosettes. A related mirror in the collection of the Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute of Utica, New York, bears the label of New York City manufacturer Isaac L. Platt (1793-1875) and suggests that the present example maybe his work. Platt made mirrors and frames and sold prints at various New York location between 1815 and 1869.
