19th Century Russian Bronze 'The Archer', Evgeniy Lanceray, c.1880

Description
Antique late-19th Century Russian cast bronze of "The Archer" on a horse with dress from the period of "Ivan The Terrible". The bronze is by Lanceray, made in the style of the medieval period (Ivan The Terrible), Grand Prince of Moscow 1533 - 1547 and first Tsar of all Russia1547 - 1584. In 1550 Ivan created Russia’s first full-time military force, the 16th-century Muscovite cavalry. Mounted archery remained an effective tactical system in open country until the introduction of firearms. Signed Lanceray in Cyrillic script with Chopin foundry mark.
