Description
A Victorian oak country house letterbox by Rodrigues, dated 1872, in the form of a conventional cylindrical letter box with a stepped hexagonal top with a central boss and LETTERS painted in black on the hinged brass flap at the mouth, the door inset with a window showing a paper stating ‘Post Leaves ..at 7pm’ and giving the ‘rates of postage for Letters or Parcels’ from 1 to 12 ounces, the interior lined in Moroccan leather, the base with a stamp drawer with a date lozenge for 1872 and signed ‘Rodrigues, 42 Piccadilly’. English.
