Description A small vase realized in salt-glazed ceramic with applied modernist, abstract design in rich primary colors by Italian ceramicist, Andrea D’Arienzo. If the design and execution here look remarkably like those of Guido Gambone, there’s good reason - - the duo had a long history of collaboration. D’Arienzo was a childhood friend of Gambone and together the duo founded La Faenzerella ceramic workshop in Vietri sul Mare, Salerno, in 1944. When Gambone ultimately relocated to Florence in 1950, establishing his La Tirrena studio, D’Arienzo followed and continued to work beside him - - the result being that his works from this period, including the vase presented here, were so similar to those of Gambone as to be indistinguishable from them in most instances. This is a wonderful example that highlights an important period in the history of ceramics in post-war Italy.
