Antique Russian bronze group of Cossack soldiers after Lieberich
Russian, 1884
Height 29cm, width 43cm, depth 30cm
This wonderful patinated bronze sculpture is after a famous original by the important Russian sculptor Nikolai Ivanovich Lieberich. The group depicts two Cossack soldiers binding a wolf, assisted by their hunting dogs and with their unmounted horses in the background. The sculpture is intricately detailed, rendered in an expressive and naturalistic manner. The group is set above an integral patinated bronze base, above a wooden plinth.
The piece is signed ‘Sculp. Lieberich’ and marked and dated for the Woerffel foundry in St. Petersburg 1884.
