Description
Very fine neoclassical Biedermeier casket box with full interior from Austria / Vienna, circa 1820.
Elaborately done sewing / casket / jewelry box, thick walnut veneer on cherry solid wood. Lid with central birch root inlay.
Ebony and maple inlays on the cover single and double on the base. A horn button at the top in front. Ebonized key plate. Original lock with key. Restored condition with shellac hand-polish (French polish).
On the side inside, there is a mirror framed by ebonized wood. The other side has cherry wood with horn buttons and ebonized wood plates inside. In the center there is a compartment with small removable drawers with a lid made of walnut and an ebonized board with an engraved decorative gold-colored wreath and lyre in the corners. In the middle, there is the name "Philipp Ginzel" in old german letters engraved. Veneered on mirror-image cherry tree on the bottom inside. -
