Dated: Heisei 14 (2002), Shigeyoshi zo. About the artist: Kato Shigemi was born on the Northern island of Hokkaido in 1953, and moved to Yamaguchi Prefecture, home of Hagi-ware, where he began potting in 1974. He was accepted into the 4th National Ceramics Exhibition (Nihon Togeiten) in 1977, and has subsequently been accepted and often awarded there and at others such as the National Traditional Crafts Exhibition (Nihon Dento Kogeiten). He was awarded the Order of Cultural Merit from Yamaguchi Prefecture in 1999 and his work is held in the Yamaguchi Prefectural Museum of Art. -
