Chinese Export Porcelain Canton Famille Rose Elephant Modeled as a Candlestick,
Circa 1860

The standing Chinese Export porcelain elephant with trunk up is painted in an iron-red with gilt decoration and caparisoned. On its back is an gu-form vase candle holder rising from the raised saddle. Below the urn is a long saddle cloth hanging down painted with famille rose birds amongst plants and flowers within a turquoise border. Across the back of the elephant is a multicolored blanket with a gilt ground and decorated with pink flowers.
Dimensions: 5 3/4 inches high x 6 1/2 inches x 4 1/2 inches deep
