Edo Period Zitan Wood Suzuribako (Writing Box)

  • Description
    Zitan wood (as stated on storage box) suzuribako with image of bamboo in makie (raised gold). Inner cover has two swallows rendered in gold. Suzuribako is complete with suiteki (water dropper) and suzuri-ishi (ink stone). Comes in its original signed kiri wood storage box. Calligraphy on the storage box reads: Makie Zitan Suzuribako dated Keio 3, made by Honda Toshikichi. Keio 3 (or 1867), is the last year of the Edo period. Writing box is in excellent condition.
