Description
English adjustable tapestry and mahogany fire screen
English, c. 1860
Height 138cm, width 45cm, depth 40cm
This mahogany and gilt metal fire screen is supported on a wooden tripod base with an ornately decorated gilt metal stem. The hand-woven tapestry depicts an autumn landscape scene, with snowy mountains and two distant boats in the background, and a quaint lakeside boathouse in the foreground. This smaller type of fire screen is placed between a lit fire and an occupant of the room to shield a person’s face from the heat. The screen height is adjustable. -
