Beautiful Ceramic Lady's Head, by Goldscheider, Austrian, circa 1930
-
Description
Eve with an apple made in ceramic by the famous Austrian Goldscheider workshop. On a wooden base. Signed inside, circa 1933.
The little bust is characteristic of the works its designer - Rudolf Knörlein (1902-1988) - realised over the span of nearly a decade for the Goldscheider manufacture ; Knörlein became later on the artistic director of Gmundner Keramik, and was awarded with the first prize at the Parisian World Exhibition in 1937. He also worked for the Wiener Werkstätte.
For over half a century Goldscheider created masterpieces in the Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) and Art Deco style. Famous artists such as Josef Lorenzl, Stefan Dakon, Ida Meisinger and the two perhaps best known Austrian ceramic artists Michael Powolny and Vally Wieselthier worked for Goldscheider. -
