American Tin "Lamb on Platform" Floor Toy by Fallows. Circa 1880s
-
Description
"Lamb on Platform" was an American floor toy that was either drawn across the floor by a string tied to the front or simply pushed around the floor by hand. It is surprising that any survived given the soldered tin construction and tin manufacture. This particular example is in very good condition and in all original paint with no repairs or restoration. There are a couple of typical creases to the base; the axles and wheels are original. The lamb is hand painted in brown with a simulated yellow bell hanging from a red ribbon. The base is painted green. The manufacturer is more than likely James Fallows & Sons, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania circa 1880's. These platform toys were made in various sizes; this example is the mid range size measuring 6 1/2" long x 5 1/2" high x 2 1/2" wide.
