Description Art Deco designed by James Waring Carpenter (American 1900-1967) for the McKay Company in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania Manufacturer Co.
This model was on exhibit in the Florida Tropical House at the Century of Progress international exposition in Chicago of 1933. The design for this magazine rack was and still is very avantgarde for the time. Most of these pieces were born out of the German Bauhaus, the influence of Modern design in Europe on American was very stimulating. Good design should be both useful as well as decorative. A similar model is in the Wolfsonian-FIU, The Mitchell Wolfson, Jr. collection.
