Description A lovely piece of Japanese woven bamboo art in the form of an ikebana basket Showa era. It was nicely woven with thing bamboo strips with hexagonal plaiting and twining plaiting that reinforces the top and bottom of the piece. The shape of this basket exhibits a subtle shift from circular on top to hexagonal on the base with a slight undulation along the body. The mouth rim was done in bundled circular plating and the contrasting base uses a wider bent bamboo strip. The piece is simple but elegant, made with sure and expertly hands. It was signed on the base "Ikkuysai made this". Ikkyu was a famous historical Japanese Zen Buddhist monk living in the 14-15th century, but we couldn't identify the this maker who may have named his studio after the monk.
