THE LIZARD -LA IGUANA, sculpture - rutilated Quartz, Brass, Wood
-
Description
'The Lizard - La Iguana', from the 'Flowers / Flores' collection by the artist. A fascinating new sculpture by Julio Martínez Barnetche from his recent body of work, where he combines precious and special rutilated quartzes or ambers, in exceptional sizes, with humble, burnt and rescued woods, and elegant forged and polished brass. All pieces are connected in an ingenious and inspirational way. The brass lifts the wood on one end, protrudes its flesh, and on the other side the brass solid parts and holds subtly a piece of slender ebony, which again carries the master of this dance, the hand-carved rutilated quartz. The precious stone (from the Selson Mine, Belo Horizonte, Bahía, Brazil), most skillfully carved is juxtaposed with a piece of salvaged or waste wood. A genius configuration, where the creative process is led by what the artist encounters in the stone and the wood, truly led by nature. There are various ways to position the piece (see images).
