Description A porcelain vase in brilliant yellow color with dragon motif by legendary Japanese potter Makuzu Kozan (1842-1916) circa 1901. The vase is made in a classic elongated baluster form and decorated in an unusual yellow monochrome enamel. A flying yellow dragon with claws and long tail was made the sole focus of the design. Its low relief body with scales flows in a background of yellow dust, mimicking the Nashiji (pear skin) lacquer effect with a subtle shift of density. The imagery is full of vitality and motion, creating a dramatic visual effect. Both mouth and base rim were decorated with geometrical patterns. The craftsmanship is refined with superb details. Marked in underglaze blue on the base. It retains an old slip of paper with the identification of the artist and the year of making.
