A rare and exquisite, circa 1820 early Italian Grand Tour model of a Roman Lavacrum or 'bath' of unusually large size; the rectangular tub with tapering sides of carved solid Proconnesian marble (Marmo proconnesio) on delicately carved hairy paw feet supports atop a solid slab plinth of Belgian black marble (Nero del Belgio).
