Mid Century Figurative Travertine Sculpture Signed Constantina Iconomopulos
-
Description
This elegant and sophisticated Mid Century Modern sculpture was realized by the studio of Constantina Iconomopulos (and signed) in Argentina circa 1960. Realized from a single slab of travertine marble - offering a sublime assortment of subdued earthtones, natural textures and an inherently textural perforated skein- this abstract piece suggests a supine female figure presented with one leg over the other and staring off into the distance. Highly stylized and verging on abstraction, the female form recalls the sculptures of Henry Moore and Constantin Brancusi. The bottom of the sculpture has been left unfinished- laying bare the artist's hand with a panoply of rough hewn chisel marks- while the rest of the piece is exquisitely finished (creating a sublime contrast). With its refined modernist aesthetic, this piece is as versatile as it is aesthetically compelling, blending perfectly with any style of interior from classic Mid Century to contemporary. The piece is signed "Constantina".
