This stylized eagle with angular swept-back wings perched on a sphere, with open talons stands with its head held high with a puffed breast showing strength and stability. This rare and unusual form is complimented with exceptional carving and great attention to the patterns of the feathers and details to the head and feet. The carving and construction are similar to those found on the early works of John Haley Bellamy (1836–1914).
