Description A very unique and rare pair of sculptural French Bulldog chenets from the 1920s Art Deco period. These dogs are more stylized than the stockier bulldogs we know today and appear more like the earlier street ratters of Paris before they were crossed with the English bulldog to attain their current AKC form. Each sculpture is cast in solid zinc sitting on a tall polished solid slate base - making them rather heavy. Beautifully crafted facial features with one dog a bit more menacing than the other. These fireplace chenets are missing the original front fender. Overall wonderful patina, one small chip to top of base. Signed Rivas with the number 2 (likely the 2nd pair cast from the series).
Styles / Movements Art Deco
