Pair of Louis-Philippe Bronze and Ormolu Candelabra, c. 1840
-
Description
Pair of bronze and ormolu (bronze doré) four-light candlesticks, each with gold floral bobeches and leafy arms raised on three scrolling branches bundled at the top; the triangular base raised on doré feet.
These unusual candelabra are well cast and finished- the quality usually seen in the earlier Empire and Charles X periods. But the naturalistic, organic forms place them in the 1840 time-frame. Note the beautiful anthemions between the shell feet- vestiges of the earlier neoclassical period. -
