Description
A rare pair of dome top Tunbridge ware boxes in walnut with intricate inlays of various exotic woods including ebony, rosewood, lemonwood and boxwood. Silver ball feet, papered interiors, working locks and keys. French polish, English, circa 1850-60

Tunbridge ware; a veneer made at Tunbridge Wells, England. It resembled minute mosaic work. Many small rods or dowels of wood were arranged in a design, and they were then glued in place, like many pieces of spaghetti.
