"Sabará" Trunk by Sergio Rodrigues, 1965, Brazilian Mid-Century Modern
-
Description
The "Sabará" trunk was designed in 1965 by the master Sergio Rodrigues.
Versatile and with a lot of storage space, this piece can be used in different ambiances for different purposes. This trunk has a beautiful four legs structure (sticks in the corners) made of solid Brazilian hardwood. It also has an outstanding Brazilian hardwood veneer, patinated with soft marks left by the time. The nice round handles match very well with the mid-century style.
The piece was restored by one of our best craftsmen in São Paulo and kept its original aura and attraction.
Rodrigues's prolific ability to apply this type of tropical wood in different ways, always extremely original and creative made him one of the most important mid-century Brazilian designers. Architect and designer, along with Joaquim Tenreiro and José Zanine Caldas, Rodrigues was the Pioneer to transform Brazilian design into Industrial Design and make it known worldwide.
“The piece of furniture is not just the shape, not just the material which is made but also something inside it. It's the piece's spirit. It's the Brazilian spirit. It's the Brazilian furniture” (Sergio Rodrigues). -
