Description
A matching set of Japanese lacquer ware including a rectangular tray and a covered square box circa 1930-40s. Made by Zohiko, an old lacquer family business that was established in 1661 in Kyoto and has been in operation continuously since. Both are in polished black lacquer with Hiramaki-e decoration of waves in the Art Deco style, depicting the Natori River in Northern Japan . It comes with a kiri wood tomobako box with paper label and inscription as shown. The minimalist design offsets the black background to create a simple but striking visual. The tray measures 8.25" by 14". The covered box measure 6.5"x 6.5" x 2.
