Description A copper weathervane of sulky on a two-wheel buggy driving a trotting horse. The piece is of a vivid three dimensional full body construction and displayed on a museum quality custom stand. The weathervane, likely made toward the end of the 19th century in New England, features an original surface with attractive verdigris patina and shows strong evidence of exposure to the passage of time. There are filled bullet hole, slight bumped area by the neck of the horse and plenty of weather-induced patterns throughout. The rein and the saddle accessories appear to be restored in a later time as they show a slightly different copper color patina. There are some evidence of re-soldering along the seam as well as the ears of the horse, but all was clearly done some time ago in a professional conservation manner. The weathervane was installed but not fixed on the wood stand. It presents as a piece of very attractive Americana folk art.
