Description Two antique Neoclassical style painted tin and gilt bronze candelabra
French, late 19th Century
Height 89cm, width 32cm, depth 29cm

Designed to imitate vases full of flowers, these antique candelabra will make exquisite additions to a luxuriously furnished interior.

The candelabra are cast as classical amphora vases, which are full of lilies. Crafted from gilt bronze (ormolu), the lilies are pictured in full bloom, with some opening to reveal candle-holders. Below, the deep blue painted tin (tole) bodies are mounted with gilt bronze elephant head handles. These hold gilt bronze fruiting vine swags, which are draped over central gilt bronze classical style medallions. The gilt bronze lower bodies are decorated with bands of scrolled foliage, and cabled fluting. Their feet feature bead-and-real mouldings, fluting and twisted rope edges. The vase-form bodies stand on square, stepped gilt bronze plinths, fringed with beading.
