Large Mexican Modern Sterling Silver Center Bowl William Spratling
-
Description
An impressive Mexican modern Mexican center bowl on fitted wood stand by William Spratling (1900-1967) circa 1962-64. Spratling is known for his modern approach of silver design and efforts in revitalizing Taxco silver industry. This rare large shallow bowl features a wide rim with alternate cutwork and raised design motifs spaced by geometrical lined block. The raised motif resembles a molded frog. The sterling and hallmark on the base dated the piece to the third phase of his design circa 1962-64. The wood stand appears original or at least custom made to specifically fit and present the center piece. The silver bowl is 3"h x 13.625" dia. With the stand it is 4"h. The weighable silver is about 30 oz.
Simple in form, with just a right amount of ornamentation rooted in Mexican culture, this is a bespoken piece that will draw attention. -
