Description A hinged box in sterling silver made in Taxco Mexico by William Spratling circa 1944-1946. The box features slight scalloped lines on the domed top, which is linked to the body with exposed hinge on the back. The form is definitively modern and possibly inspired by the vernacular storage trunks found in many Mexico homes. It was probably intended to be used as a small table top jewelry box originally. Mark to the base: SPRATLING, MADE IN MEXICO, WS, STERLING. It weight about 11 ounce.
